An opportunity has arisen for an Accounts Assistant to join the Regulated Networks Finance team based at Castleford. The energy industry is advancing with investment in smart technology innovation and Northern Powergrid, as the company responsible for powering everyday life for 8 million customers across 3.9 million homes and businesses in the Northeast, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire, is at the forefront of delivering a power network that meets the region’s needs, now and in the future.
Reporting to a Finance Manager, you will work with other members of the Finance – Reporting and Operations teams to support the provision of accurate, reliable, timely and insightful financial information for use within Finance and by the wider business. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who can complete tasks where attention to detail and the requirement to follow agreed processes are essential to ensure accuracy.
Key Responsibilities- Process accounting transactions in the core financial system (CFS), including cost transfers and journals.
- Respond to and process requests submitted to the department mailbox.
- Complete balance sheet reconciliations and ensure reconciling items are cleared on a timely basis.
- Update, review and publish documentation for the wider business in our Controlled Document System (CDS).
- Maintain trackers of information updates required for Finance e.g. Project control lists, process documents, spreadsheet controls, access controls etc.
- Prepare meeting packs, run financial reports and provide business performance data to agreed timescales.
- Support the Finance Managers and Accountants with ad hoc reporting tasks and business queries.
- Be numerate, good written and verbal communication skills.
- Committed to consistently delivering excellent customer service.
- Possess strong IT skills with a good working knowledge of MS Office applications (Outlook, Word and Excel) and Teams and have used a Financial Operating System.
- Good planning and organisational skills, able to prioritise and deliver tasks to deadlines.
- Team player able to collaborate with others.
- Essential: 2 A Levels Grade C or above OR NVQ Level 3 OR an ONC in Business Management.
- Good working knowledge of accounting routines with experience working in a finance function; ideally experience in posting journals, reconciling accounts and preparing financial reports.
- Desirable: GCSE Grade C or above in English Language.
- Holds or is working towards an accounting qualification e.g. AAT.
- Experience creating and updating documents in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
