We have an exciting vacancy within the high dependency unit at DPOW hospital. The unit provides care for up to seven patients requiring a high level of care with critical care needs. The unit works closely with the ITU and whilst the role is primarily on HDU, the successful candidate would be expected to work across both areas as needed.
The successful candidate will have a professional, caring, and enthusiastic attitude. They will have experience as a health care assistant within an acute hospital setting and have undertaken a relevant NVQ at level 2.
The successful candidate will be expected to assist nursing staff in the care of up to 7 critically unwell patients.
- Assist patients in achieving their personal care needs, e.g., washing and toileting.
- Assist patients in achieving excellent nutrition, e.g., completing menus, advising on healthy options, serving meals, and assisting them to eat.
- Aid patients in achieving their rehabilitation goals.
- Maintain the highest standards of compassionate and professional patient-centered care, with particular attention to privacy and dignity.
- Assist in skin and pressure area care to prevent pressure ulcers, under the supervision of registered nurses, helping patients move positions to prevent discomfort and pressure ulcers.
- Ensure patients are comfortable.
- Help patients move around.
- Keep departments tidy and ensure equipment is clean.
- Ensure adequate stock of the unit and assist in ordering supplies.
- Take on link nurse roles alongside trained staff.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Work within trust policies and guidelines.
- Utilize appropriate moving and handling equipment to reduce injury risks to patients and staff.
- Communicate any changes in the patient’s condition to the nurse.
