The Commissioners of Northern Lighthouses require Able Seafarer Deck for service onboard their Lighthouse Tenders on a fixed manning rota – 28 days duty followed by 28 days leave. The Northern Lighthouse Board is the General Lighthouse Authority for Scotland and the Isle of Man, responsible for the superintendence and management of all lighthouses, buoys and beacons within those waters. We have provided this vital safety service to mariners since 1786.
The Role – Overview
As Able Seafarer Deck, reporting to the Bosun, you will carry out operational and ship husbandry tasks essential to the running of an NLB Vessel. This will include loading, stowage and discharge of cargo, buoy servicing, boatwork and helicopter operations including working ashore on sites and at lighthouses.
Skills/Experience Required
- You should hold the following current certification:
- STCW Navigational Watch Rating certificate
- Able Seafarer Deck certificate
- ISPS – Proficiency in Designated Security Duties
- Elementary First Aid
- Personal Survival Techniques
- Survival Craft and Rescue Boats
- Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting
- Personal Safety and Social Responsibility
- A valid unrestricted ENG1 medical.
You should have recent relevant sea-going experience and experience of ship based helicopter and crane operations, together with manual handling skills, would be an advantage.
Salary and Benefits
£32,409 per year rising to £39,505 per year depending on skills and experience. A Civil Service Pension with an average employer contribution of 28%. Generous sick pay scheme and family leave policies. Excellent training and development opportunities.
