Purpose of Position: Provide safe and appropriate transportation to meet the University's needs and to provide safe work vehicles and equipment for Operation and Maintenance personnel and the Campus Community.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Perform diagnostics on cars, trucks and equipment in order to complete general repairs and service maintenance to vehicles.
- Perform minor autobody repairs and some minor welding.
- Provide assistance to the Lead Mechanic and Supervisor for all administrative duties, including monthly data for fuel and vehicle repairs for interdepartmental billings, employee timekeeping, Pcard purchases for supplies and parts needed for repairs.
- Assist managing personnel in absence of the Supervisor, including planning, assigning and checking work.
- Maintain a Commercial Drivers License with a passenger endorsement to provide bus transportation for university needs.
- Provide safe and aesthetically appropriate transportation for the University.
- Keep complete and accurate record keeping of work performed, parts and supplies.
- Completion of work orders in CMMS system for data reporting purposes.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures. Complete all required safety and compliance training.
- Report to work during Snow events to assist in repairing any vehicles or equipment.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma/GED required with 3 years of related experience.
- Valid driver's license.
- ASE Certification Required.
- Commercial Driver's License is preferred but not required. (Must obtain within 6 months of hire date.)
- Must possess ability to perform mechanical repairs on all types of vehicles/engines including gasoline powered, diesel powered, battery powered, etc.
- Must be able to perform emergency mechanical repairs on roadsides and in adverse weather conditions including but not limited to extreme heat/cold, snow, ice, rain, etc.
- Must be physically able to perform frequent medium heavy to maximum exertion.
- Must possess basic computer skills.
- Must be flexible to work any and all hours associated with responding to perform mechanical repairs to snow/ice removal equipment during Winter months.
