The department is open Monday-Friday, 8:15 am-4:30 pm (hours can vary each day by the student's class schedule). There may be some evening or weekend hours on occasion for events. This position is for 10 hours a week during the spring semester. (Schedule determined upon hiring). Working during students' class times is prohibited.
First-Year Experience is hiring a highly motivated Northern Kentucky University student. The Communication and Engagement Student Assistant will support the departments by planning and implementing a strong social media and web engagement initiative. This position will collaborate with the Director of First-Year Experience and Programming and the FYE Event and Marketing Assistant to develop and implement event-specific social media marketing strategies and assess program reception through platform data review for the First-Year Experience office. This position will be partially virtual, with required in-office and work meetings. The position will collaborate with the Events and Marketing Assistant and the FYE Program Assistant.
Primary Responsibilities
- Social Media Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development of a social media strategy.
- Create and implement social media postings and updates.
- Post and communicate with followers or page visitors.
- Design, review, and update promotional social platform materials.
- Website Responsibilities:
- Take University offered Web Editing Training after being hired.
- Maintain and update web content.
- Detail-oriented, proofing and revising website for minimal errors.
- Meeting with FYP faculty to update and revise content.
- Proof and revise website documents.
- Engagement Responsibilities:
- Serve as positive role models of student success.
- Assist with department initiatives to engage the campus community.
- It is critical to think about this programming from a campus-wide perspective with a key focus on student engagement.
- Event & Marketing Support Responsibilities:
- Assists with the planning, promotion, coordination, and data collection of major First-Year Experience events (i.e., Major/Minor Fair, Common Experience Panel, Alpha Lambda Delta Induction, etc.).
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must be eligible for Federal Work-Study (FWS).
- This position considers a candidate with a demonstrated knowledge of and enthusiasm for NKU, involvement in campus activities, and a desire to help new students, a strong benefit to candidacy.
- The ideal candidate should major in Communication Studies, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, Art, Business, or a related major.
- Students must be able to demonstrate a level of the following:
- Successful independent work.
- Organization of time and prioritization of responsibilities.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to think critically.
- Beginner to Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Suites and Adobe CC Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign a plus), Canva, etc.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
- Comfortable with assisting the management of multiple social media accounts and websites in developing content that informs, educates, and engages our audiences to increase awareness and achieve marketing goals for the department.
