The Northern Ireland Practice and Education Council (NIPEC) was established in 2002 as a Non Departmental Public Body (NDPB), sponsored by the Department of Health (DoH). NIPEC aims to improve standards of practice, education, and professional development of Nurses and Midwives and facilitate their delivery of safe, effective, and person-centred care. It also provides advice and guidance on best practice and matters relating to nursing and midwifery.

The Chief Executive, as the Accounting Officer for the Organisation, reports to the Chair and is directly responsible to the Permanent Secretary and ultimately, the Minister for Health in Northern Ireland. In this role, you will support the Chair and NIPEC Council to fulfil statutory responsibilities of the Organisation and provide leadership to the Senior Management Team (SMT) within NIPEC.

The role of Chief Executive is complex and dynamic. The successful applicant will be required to be strategically focused on key developments and issues relating to Health and Social Care, and on professional and regulatory matters in support of the outworking of DoH strategies and policies and of the NMC as regulator of the Nursing and Midwifery professions.

In providing corporate leadership to the Organisation and as a strategic leader within Northern Ireland, you must be an articulate, excellent communicator with the ability to build strong alliances and relationships with a range of stakeholders across all settings and sectors, with networks and partners across Northern Ireland, the UK, and beyond.

This is an exciting and challenging opportunity for the Chief Executive to support the provision of the best nursing and midwifery care, now and into the future, within Northern Ireland. This is a permanent full-time post.

If you are shortlisted, it is anticipated that the Assessment Centre will take place week commencing 20th July 2026, and final interviews will take place week commencing 3rd August 2026. Informal discussion regarding this post can be arranged with Linda Kelly, NIPEC Chief Executive. Further details and application forms can be downloaded from the website.

Closing date: Thursday 2nd July 2026 at 2pm. The Northern Ireland Practice and Education Council is an Equal Opportunities Employer.
