Are you a compassionate and motivated Consultant in Palliative Medicine seeking the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to patients and families across Northern Ireland?
About Northern Ireland Hospice
Founded in 1983, Northern Ireland Hospice has grown into a progressive and highly respected organisation delivering specialist palliative care across inpatient and community settings. Our modern, state-of-the‑art facility in North Belfast opened in 2016 and provides an outstanding environment for patients, families and staff.
Our adult services include an 18-bed inpatient unit, caring for over 250 patients each year, alongside specialist community palliative care teams supporting approximately 3,000 patients annually. Our model of care focuses on symptom management, rehabilitation, end‑of‑life care and enabling patients to remain in, or return to, their preferred place of care wherever possible.
The Role
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery and development of specialist palliative care services within a well‑established consultant team. The successful candidate will provide expert clinical leadership across inpatient and community services, working alongside dedicated medical, nursing and allied health professional colleagues. Consultants rotate between inpatient and community responsibilities, providing continuity of care and opportunities to develop expertise across the full spectrum of palliative medicine.

We are seeking a Consultant who is committed to delivering outstanding person‑centred care and who will:
- Provide specialist assessment and management for patients requiring palliative care.
- Participate in a 1 in 6 non-residential second on‑call rota.
- Contribute to service development, quality improvement, governance and clinical leadership.
- Support undergraduate, postgraduate and multidisciplinary education.
- Supervise and train resident doctors.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across hospice care services.
Why Join Us?
At Northern Ireland Hospice, you will be part of a values‑driven organisation committed to excellence, compassion and innovation. We offer:
- A supportive and experienced consultant team with a strong multidisciplinary culture.
- Opportunities for teaching, leadership, service development and research.
- Flexible working arrangements, including less‑than‑full‑time working.
- Modern facilities and an established reputation for high‑quality specialist palliative care.
- A competitive benefits package including a Health Cash Plan, technology and cycle‑to‑work schemes, staff discounts, wellbeing support and more.
If you are passionate about delivering exceptional palliative care and helping shape the future of hospice services in Northern Ireland, we would be delighted to hear from you.
