Hi we’re The Conservation Volunteers (TCV), and we connect people together to protect and restore nature.

Since 1959, The Conservation Volunteers has been a charity creating opportunities for people to create, improve and care for nature in the green spaces around them across the UK. Our variety of projects cover a bit of everything involving nature. Volunteers muddy their boots in parks, community gardens, woodland, sites of special scientific interest, nature reserves, schools and hospital grounds, helping create a glorious network of protected green space across the UK. This work connects people with nature, and that connection delivers powerful results.

The knockbracken Green gym is situated on the Knockbracken estate. It houses one of our largest polly-tunnels, a woodland area and an allotment style garden.

If you are someone who enjoys learning new skills (crafting, composting, seed saving, organic weed management, harvesting, pollinator support and more) or if you’re an already keen gardener looking to make connections and mentor newcomers, this is a lovely opportunity for you to get involved in.

Join us during a session to peruse the gardens, enjoy the bird song and meet like-minded folk. You can roll up your sleeves or simply come for the tea and biscuits, but either way Knockbracken is a solace from city life.

TCV project manage the garden, providing tools, support and knowledge, but the emphasis is on building community and harnessing volunteers skills. We’re looking for all nature lovers, young and older, the skilled and the still learning, to muck in, connect all while conserving the land around them.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Gardening: container pots, vegetable, flower, herb, permaculture, no dig method, nursery management, harvesting.
  • Crafting, maintenance, clearing, sorting.
