Are you passionate about Men’s Health? Groundwork Northern Ireland is looking for an energised, commercially minded individual to help transform the Men’s Shed network into a thriving, long-term resource that offers opportunities for over 120 Men’s sheds. This isn’t a standard desk job. You will split your time between development and high-impact fieldwork—from urban hubs to rural heartlands. Your priorities will build on our pillars: Strategic Funding, Corporate Partnerships, Income generation, and Excellence in Project Delivery.

We are currently recruiting a Men’s Shed Engagement & Development Coordinator, to support the development of the Men’s Shed network in Northern Ireland.

Men’s Sheds were originally developed in Australia in the 1980s as non-profit groups that provide a local space for woodwork and socialisation, with the aim of improving the overall health and wellbeing of men. The concept developed into the idea that ‘Men don’t talk face to face, they talk shoulder to shoulder’ meaning men build more meaningful connections when actively working or engaging in another activity. Sheds then began to develop as a place for retired men to socialise and re-discover a sense of purpose. The benefits of Sheds, both physically and mentally, could not be predicted, and the concept soon spread globally.

With funding from the Rayne Foundation and PHA, Groundwork NI supports over 120 sheds across NI, but demand for support is growing.

Help us secure the future: Drive the financial and strategic security of the network by identifying and winning high-value opportunities with corporate donors, trusts, and government partners.

Build the Movement: Work alongside the Community & Wellbeing Manager to scale the support team and deepen relationships with the public and voluntary sector as well as the UK and Irish Men’s Sheds Networks.

Innovate & Expand: Elevate our digital presence and resources, providing the advice and guidance that allows new and existing Sheds to flourish.

Be the Face of Growth: Actively engage in outreach, bringing new initiatives to life and ensuring our “Shed proposition” remains first-class.
