Working across both pipeline and above-ground installation (AGI) assets, the role will contribute to the safe and efficient design of infrastructure essential to the development of the hydrogen network. This is a unique opportunity to shape one of the UK's most ambitious low-carbon infrastructure programmes, driving the technical development of a hydrogen network that will transform how energy is produced, transported, and used across the region.

  • Manage engineering consultants (c. £10M budget) and internal technical teams
  • Oversee technical assurance and approvals for designs and deliverables
  • Provide engineering input into project strategy, risk management, and decision making
  • Coordinate with National Gas, project partners, and industry stakeholders
  • Drive compliance with process safety, technical safety, and functional safety standards

We are looking for:

  • Experience in design and engineering management in gas transmission/distribution, oil & gas, or hydrogen projects
  • Proven track record in leading FEED stage projects and managing large consultant teams/budget
  • Strong knowledge of UK gas transmission/distribution design and standards
  • Experience with network analysis, flow assurance and hydrogen related projects
  • Skilled in managing technical risk, approvals, and complex stakeholder relationships
  • Strong commitment to process safety and technical assurance

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Degree-level education in Mechanical, Process, or related Engineering discipline
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng)
  • Master's degree or design appraiser qualification (desirable)

  • Occupational sick pay available after the first 2 calendar days of statutory sick pay
  • Generous stakeholder pension scheme, doubling your contribution, up to 10%
  • Flexible benefits and salary sacrifice options, including discounts on UK attractions, gym memberships, restaurants, experience days, plus access to a Virtual GP service
  • Family-friendly policies, including up to 6 weeks of paternity leave and 6 months of full pay for maternity leave (for eligible employees), plus shared parental leave and more
