Starting salary from £44,112. Operational Incentive scheme plus a van. Permanent position located in Burradon. 41.25 hours per week.

We have an amazing opportunity to join us as an Operational Response Engineer (ORE) in our well-established team in Burradon. You will play a huge part in ensuring our network has hot water and heating throughout the year providing a customer first focused approach. The role of ORE is essential as you will be the first point of call for gas escapes, investigations, maintenance and replacements. Your role really does make a difference to our customers, as you will be responsible for ensuring emergencies and works are managed in a speedy and safe manner. Operating in the industry that we do; safety is paramount, and you will make this your priority as you quickly assess the situation and make the right decisions. You will need to hold your CCN1 / CESP1 or CMA1 certificate and be Gas Safe registered (proof of which will be needed when you are invited to interview) with at least a full year's experience and hold a full UK driving licence. Please remember these are Response roles and as such will require you to work unsocial hours and weekends.

Your key accountabilities and responsibilities will include:

  • Co-ordinate work for teams and individuals engaged in the operation and maintenance of the gas transportation system. Receive instructions and requests, plan and organise resources and make appropriate arrangements to ensure that work is carried out efficiently.
  • Lay, connect, disconnect, commission, decommission and maintain pipework, associated plant and equipment; this may involve complex work and/or specialist knowledge.
  • Respond to emergencies, participate in standby and undertake testing, survey, detection and diagnostic work which may be of a complex nature, reporting results, ensuring safety and taking appropriate action in order to maintain the transportation system and associated equipment.
  • Carry out and ensure that excavation, backfill, reinstatement and repair work is carried out to the required standards.
  • Provide appropriate training, specialist advice, support and guidance to teams/individuals engaged in the operation and maintenance.
  • Co-ordinate and provide advice, guidance and support for 3rd parties operating on or adjacent to the gas transportation system.
  • Gather information, prepare, and write reports which may include participation in the preparation of technical information and making appropriate recommendations.
  • Work within and promote the philosophy of team working and development across all NGN activities to achieve business objectives, improve commercial performance and deliver excellent customer experience.

What we are looking for in our ORE:

  • You will need to hold your CCN1 / CESP1 or CMA1 certificate and be Gas Safe registered, your certificates will be requested at interview and you will need at least a full year's experience.
  • A self-starter with an understanding of the importance of a zero-tolerance safety culture and delivering excellent customer service every time.
  • Ability to communicate with colleagues, customers, and members of the public.
  • Willing to work the variable shift patterns and participate in an out of hours' standby rota.
  • IT skills – working with keyboards, typing skills.
  • Fit enough to meet the physical demands of the role.
  • Hold a full UK driving licence and have eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Available for the 4-week period after your start date so that you are able to complete your training with 100% attendance.

What we offer:

  • £44,112 per annum.
  • 41.25 hours per week over a 7-day variable work pattern, including standby - rotas are given in advance and will include some night shifts although this would not be expected on a weekly basis.
  • Operational incentive scheme - additional earnings of up to £3,000 per annum.
  • 25 days holiday per year, plus 8 days bank holiday, plus 2 half days (Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve).
  • Day 1 – 2: Equivalent of Statutory Sick Pay, from calendar day 3 onwards full occupational sick pay.
