Are you ready to play a leading role in shaping the UK’s hydrogen future? We are looking for an experienced Pipelines Engineering Manager to lead the engineering delivery of the East Coast Hydrogen (ECH) project. Working across both pipeline and above‑ground installation (AGI) assets, the role will contribute to the safe and efficient design of infrastructure essential to the development of the hydrogen network. This is a unique opportunity to shape one of the UK’s most ambitious low‑carbon infrastructure programmes, driving the technical development of a hydrogen network that will transform how energy is produced, transported, and used across the region.
You will play a pivotal role in managing multi‑million‑pound engineering programmes, guiding teams and consultants, and ensuring the safe, efficient, and innovative delivery of a project that supports the UK’s net zero goals.
In this role you will:
- Lead engineering delivery of the FEED phase in line with Ofgem and industry standards
- Manage engineering consultants (c. £10M budget) and internal technical teams
- Oversee technical assurance and approvals for designs and deliverables
- Provide engineering input into project strategy, risk management, and decision making
- Coordinate with National Gas, project partners, and industry stakeholders
- Drive compliance with process safety, technical safety, and functional safety standards
We are looking for:
- Experience in design and engineering management in gas transmission/distribution, oil & gas, or hydrogen projects
- Proven track record in leading FEED stage projects and managing large consultant teams/budget
- Strong knowledge of UK gas transmission/distribution design and standards
- Experience with network analysis, flow assurance and hydrogen related projects
- Skilled in managing technical risk, approvals, and complex stakeholder relationships
- Strong commitment to process safety and technical assurance
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Degree-level education in Mechanical, Process, or related Engineering discipline
- Chartered Engineer (CEng)
- Master’s degree or design appraiser qualification (desirable)
