Join us in shaping the future of clean energy. We have an exciting opportunity to join our East Coast Hydrogen (ECH) team as a Pipeline Design Engineer. Working across both pipeline and above-ground installation (AGI) assets, you will support the Engineering Manager, contributing to the safe and efficient design of infrastructure, essential to the development of the hydrogen network.

You will work closely with design consultants and project teams, providing technical expertise and ensuring designs meet required standards. This is a hands-on engineering role where you will apply your technical knowledge to real-world challenges, whether it’s liaising with our design consultants, carrying out pipeline sizing calculations or appraising design packages. You will also be a key point of contact for both internal and external stakeholders, helping to bridge technical understanding across the project.

In this role you will:

  • Provide technical input to internal teams and external design consultants
  • Manage sections of design and engineering work, ensuring compliance with standards
  • Review and check design deliverables to maintain quality and accuracy
  • Produce clear technical reports and contribute to feasibility and concept studies
  • Lead and participate in design meetings and risk workshops

We are looking for:

  • Experience in gas transmission or distribution network design
  • Experience in above-ground installation design
  • Experience in hydrogen related projects
  • Familiarity with design software (GIS, CAD) and analytical tools (e.g. Synergi Gas)
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Logical, analytical problem-solver with solid decision-making ability
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Degree-level education in Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer

Salary from £61,737 per annum. Annual bonus of up to 10%, recognising your contribution and performance. 25 days of annual leave, plus recognised bank holidays and 2 additional half-days over the Christmas period. Occupational sick pay available after the first 2 calendar days of statutory sick pay. Generous stakeholder pension scheme, doubling your contribution, up to 10%. Flexible benefits and salary sacrifice options, including discounts on UK attractions, gym memberships, restaurants, experience days, plus access to a Virtual GP service.
