At Northern Gas Networks (NGN), our Gas Operatives are at the heart of what we do. You will enjoy a varied, hands‑on role where no two days are the same, with full training, industry‑recognised qualifications, and ongoing development opportunities to help you build a long‑term career. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working outdoors, solving problems, and making a real difference. You will work in all weather conditions and be part of a team that responds when customers need us most. Flexibility is important, as the role includes early mornings and evenings (with rotas provided in advance), along with a positive attitude, resilience, and a commitment to delivering excellent customer service. A full UK manual driving licence is a requirement for this role.
Responsibilities:
- Carry out essential work on our gas network, including mains and service replacements, repairs to gas leaks, and other gas distribution activities that keep customers safe and supplied.
- Work alongside the Team Leader to complete excavation, pipe laying, jointing, connections, and repairs, helping maintain a safe and reliable network.
- Operate a range of plant and equipment, including mini excavators and pneumatic tools, following all training, safety, and maintenance requirements.
- Champion high standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance, ensuring work is completed safely and responsibly.
- Build positive relationships with colleagues, customers, and local communities through clear communication and a customer‑focused approach.
- Drive company vehicles and transport materials, equipment, and resources to support operational activities.
- Represent NGN professionally at all times, helping to deliver an excellent customer experience and a positive impact in the communities we serve.
