Role Overview

Northern Education Trust is seeking to appoint two dedicated Teaching Assistants to join the team at Dyke House Academy.

In this role you will support interventions with students requiring additional mentoring to achieve their GCSEs, working with small groups and individual students across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.

Your primary focus will be to promote the learning and welfare of students by providing practical and learning support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver targeted intervention programs to individuals and small groups to maximize access and participation in the National Curriculum.
  • Interview students to discuss reasons for underperformance, assist in developing intervention materials, and keep detailed logs of progress.
  • Assist in classroom planning, monitoring, and evaluating learning objectives under the direction of the class teacher.
  • Help students develop literacy, language, and reasoning skills, and assist them with organization and preparation of assignments.
  • Support students with special needs, encouraging acceptance and inclusion; develop methods to reinforce self‑esteem and assist with Individual Learning Plans (ILP).
  • Maintain productive relationships with students, act as a role model, and support the "expectations for learning" system to maintain high standards of behaviour.
  • Collaborate regularly with teachers, heads of department, and parents/carers regarding student progress, ILPs, and feedback.
  • Assist with the use of ICT in the learning process under teacher guidance.
  • Occasionally supervise whole classes during short-term absences of teachers.
  • Assist with invigilation of internal and external examinations and assessments.
