Specialist Upper Gastrointestinal (UGI) Dietitian

We are delighted to advertise for a permanent Band 6 UGI Dietetic post working as a member of the Greater Manchester Oesophago-gastric Multi-Disciplinary Team, based at GM OG surgical centre at Salford Care Organisation.

This role will be within the UGI services supporting both in and outpatients. You would form part of the wider Salford dietetic team, which consists of nearly 70 team members across acute and community including assistants and admin.

You will work alongside the Greater Manchester Oesophago-gastric Multi-Disciplinary Team to provide holistic care and treatment planning for those patients diagnosed with an UGI cancer, plus those with benign UGI conditions. The role can require you to work at off-site clinics across Greater Manchester working with the local UGI MDTs to support patients at early diagnosis. Your clinical activity will also include an inpatient caseload on the surgical wards and Critical Care unit, alongside MDT and Dietetic clinics. You will be able to apply your skills or learn new skills in managing enteral and parenteral nutrition.

The current advertised role is for a static permanent position.

Main duties of the job

The position requires a team member who is adaptable, motivated, compassionate, and dynamic to work within this established service. It is essential that you are skilled in working as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality care and develop the service. Experience of treating patients and working in an acute and outpatient setting is required. You will be supporting patients during early cancer diagnosis so good communication skills and flexibility are essential qualities. You will be involved in oral nutritional support, enteral and parenteral nutrition, plus managing acute nutritional support decisions requiring admission to hospital.

We are an innovative department so the role will also include elements of research, service development, audit, and quality improvement which will include elements of data collection and reporting.

Qualifications and Professional Registration

  • BSc. or MSc. in Nutrition and Dietetics or Post‑graduate qualification in Dietetics1 Professional registration
  • State registration as a Dietitian with the HCPC
  • Member of the British Dietetic Association
  • Member of relevant British Dietetic Association Specialist Group
  • Higher degree or additional qualification in nutrition related topic

Knowledge and Skills

  • Clinical knowledge in UGI benign and cancer conditions
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels and work in MDT
  • Ability to develop individual nutrition care plans
  • Knowledge of current best practice in clinical field
  • Expertise in obtaining accurate anthropometric measurements
  • High level of expertise in nutritional support
  • Nutritional knowledge for the range of gastrointestinal conditions
  • Evidence of CPD activities within specialist field
  • Ability to interpret and analyse statistical data
  • Membership of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition Group
