Join our friendly and forward-thinking Haematology and Blood Transfusion team at the Northern Care Alliance, where you will play an essential role in delivering safe, accurate and timely diagnostic services for our patients. This is an excellent opportunity for a newly HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist, or a recent graduate completing their training portfolio, to begin your career in a supportive, well-structured environment.

As a Band 5 Biomedical Scientist, you will rotate through all areas of the Haematology and Blood Transfusion laboratory, gaining experience with a wide range of analytical techniques, modern automation platforms and quality systems. You will work closely with experienced Biomedical Scientists, who will support your continued professional development and help you build confidence in your practice.

Our service operates 24/7, and you will be part of a shift system once fully trained and competent. You will contribute directly to patient care by producing high-quality results, escalating abnormal findings, and ensuring all work meets UKAS ISO 15189 and MHRA regulatory standards.

If you are motivated, enthusiastic and committed to developing your scientific career within a busy and accredited pathology service, we would be delighted to receive your application. We welcome UK graduates, placement students and those who demonstrate strong theoretical knowledge alongside a genuine interest in Haematology and Transfusion Science.

You will work with modern automated analysers, perform manual and specialist techniques under supervision, and contribute to internal and external quality assurance processes. You will be expected to recognise results that require escalation, communicate findings clearly, and maintain high professional standards at all times.

The role includes using the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for data entry and result reporting, supporting the verification of new equipment or methods, and contributing to audits and quality improvement activities. You will also play a part in training and supporting students, trainees and support staff within the team.

Once fully trained and competent, you will participate in the 24/7 shift system, covering nights, weekends and bank holidays to ensure continuous delivery of a safe and effective service. Throughout all duties, you will uphold Trust values and contribute to maintaining UKAS ISO 15189 accreditation and MHRA compliance within the Blood Transfusion service.
