Overview
The PCT, including all hospital units and departments and the Float/Flex Pool PCT, under the supervision of the charge nurse, clinical manager, and/or director, is responsible for assisting in patient care, documentation, and supply management. PCTs keep the unit supplied, clean, and organized. Additionally, the PCT may function in an office assistant role, answering telephones, addressing patient or support individual questions within their capabilities, and performing data entry and collection.
The PCT in the discharge unit assists discharged patients, coordinates discharge logistics, and helps patients access resources and health services.
The PCT in the Labor Delivery and Postpartum Breastfeeding Center does not provide direct patient care.
The PCT follows all policies and procedures of Northern Arizona Healthcare, performs or assists with procedures within their scope, and works closely with the interdisciplinary team. The PCT may care for infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
The Float/Flex Pool PCT may work on any hospital unit, change departments during shifts, or serve as a Patient Safety Attendant (PSA) as needed, with corresponding documentation. Call requirements apply for Float/Flex Pool PCTs.

Responsibilities
- Patient Care
- Maintains department cleanliness and follows procedures for post-treatment cleanup.
- Assists with patient transfers, mobility, and activities of daily living.
- Monitors skin integrity, assists with removing catheters and IVs, and supports patient safety and comfort.
- Collaborates with healthcare team to ensure appropriate staffing and patient care.
- Performs assessments, assists with documentation, and supports clinical procedures within scope.
- Assists patients with transportation and discharge instructions.
- Coordinates with team and community resources, and documents in EMR.
- Manages breastpump rental billing, communicates with patients, and maintains supplies and cleanliness.
- Handles phone calls, assists with orientation and training, maintains documentation, and supports clerical duties.
- Understands standards of care, policies, and procedures; engages in professional development.
- Reports safety incidents, attends safety training, and ensures compliance with regulations and certifications.
