Introduction
Support teaching and learning across the school whilst working towards a Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship. The apprentice will work alongside experienced staff to help pupils across the curriculum, develop confidence and achieve their individual learning goals.
What You’ll Do
- Provide in‑class support to pupils, both individually and in small groups.
- Assist pupils with a range of abilities, including those with special educational needs (SEN).
- Encourage positive behaviour in line with the school’s behaviour policy.
- Support pupils’ emotional wellbeing, engagement and independence.
- Support teaching staff.
- Assist with the preparation of learning resources and classroom materials.
- Support the delivery of lessons and structured learning activities.
- Provide feedback to teachers on pupil progress and any concerns.
- Contribute to maintaining an organised and effective learning environment.
- Support basic classroom displays and record keeping.
- Assist with displays and preparation of learning materials.
- Support the school.
- Supervise pupils during breaktimes, lunchtimes or educational visits where required.
- Support whole‑school activities and events as appropriate.
- Uphold the values and ethos of Hurworth School.
- Ensure compliance with all Academy/Trust policies and procedures and awareness of obligations under these.
- Behave according to the Trust Code of Conduct and awareness of responsibilities re: conflicts of interest, gifts, hospitality and other matters covered by the Code.
- Report incidents, accidents or hazards and take a pro‑active approach to health and safety matters to protect yourself and others, in accordance with health and safety policies, organisational statements and procedures.
- Safeguard and promote the welfare of children/students for whom you have responsibility.
- This post is deemed to be a ‘Customer Facing’ role in line with the definition of the Code of Practice on the English language requirement for public sector workers.

Qualifications
Essential: GCSE Maths and English – 4/CAA.

Working Arrangements
Working week: Monday–Thursday, 8:30am to 4:30pm and Friday 8:30am to 4:00pm. Total hours per week: 37. Expected duration: 1 year 6 months. Number of positions available: 2. Training provider: DARLINGTON COLLEGE.
