The role

Northeastern University London wishes to appoint a part time Lecturer in Economics (Teaching only) to teach undergraduate students. Appointments will be made commensurate with experience and qualifications, reflecting a record of demonstrated teaching excellence.

Core duties will include delivering innovative and inclusive teaching in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and/or Statistics for Economists at undergraduate level to predominantly international exchange students participating in a study abroad programme. The ability to deliver engaging, accessible, and intellectually rigorous instruction suited to both cohorts is essential.

Discipline/ Faculty

The appointee will join a small and collegial Economics team with varied research interests, sitting within the broader Faculty of Social Sciences at Northeastern University London. The Faculty comprises approximately 70 academic staff, including academics in Business and Project Management, Politics and International Relations, Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, and Design & Communication Studies. The University provides a positive environment for interdisciplinary collaborations and encourages work across disciplinary boundaries.

The Economics discipline plays an important role in both the domestic degree portfolio and the University’s participation in Northeastern University’s global network programmes. A particular feature of this role is the provision of Economics courses to London Scholars - undergraduate students from Northeastern University’s US campuses spending a year studying in London. These students bring a range of perspectives that make for a rich and diverse classroom environment.

Person Specification Criteria

To undertake this role, the following should apply – should you not have the experience below, please do highlight where transferrable skills would assist with you undertaking the role.

• Qualifications: PhD in Economics or a closely related discipline, completed or currently underway (essential)
• FHEA status, or equivalent, achieved or in progress (desirable)

Key Criteria

• Demonstrates, through evidence, excellent ability to be adaptable, innovative, and inclusive in the role as advertised with regards to teaching and service
• Teaching competency in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Statistics for Economists at undergraduate level (in particular level 4 / 1st year undergraduate)
• Experience of, or demonstrable ability to work effectively with, diverse student cohorts including international and study-abroad students
• Ability to develop excellent educational provision in Economics with a focus on student engagement and experiential learning
• Excellent written and verbal interpersonal and communication skills, including presentation skills
• Excellent IT skills and evidence of supporting the integration of technologies into learning and teaching
• Excellent time-management and organisational skills
