Northeastern University London (NU London) in collaboration with Northeastern’s Intelligent Networked Systems Institute (INSI), College of Engineering (COE) and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) invites applications for academic appointments at the levels of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor in AI or Quantum Information Processing.
We seek outstanding candidates whose research and teaching focus on one or more of the following broad areas with applications to telecommunications and beyond:
- Computational Aspects of Artificial Intelligence
- Artificial Intelligence for Engineering
- Quantum Information Processing
This position will play a crucial role in establishing new cutting-edge research and educational programmes at NU London and in strengthening Northeastern’s global network of campuses in the UK and the US. The successful candidate will build and maintain strong ties with industrial and academic partners across the UK, the European Union, the US, and globally.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop, lead and conduct world-class research in one or more of the defined areas.
- Secure external funding, publish in high-impact journals and conferences, and build a research team or collaborative network.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses (e.g., foundational and advanced topics) and supervise MSc and PhD student research.
- Contribute to the growth of INSI: help define its strategic direction, translate research into real-world engineering and telecom network applications, and foster interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Engage with industry and academic partners to facilitate translational research and innovation across telecommunications, networked infrastructure and intelligent systems.
- Collaborate within Northeastern’s global campus network to deliver interdisciplinary education, joint programmes and international partnerships.
About the Institute
The Intelligent Networked Systems Institute (INSI) at NU London is a newly established transatlantic research hub focused on next-generation connectivity and intelligent computing and learning systems. The INSI London Hub acts as a bridge between the US and Europe, advancing interdisciplinary collaboration across continents. INSI is dedicated to addressing challenges in telecommunications, artificial intelligence, quantum information and information processing, with the objective of creating a more efficient, connected and secure world.
Qualifications and Criteria
Qualifications
- PhD (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications, Physics or a closely related field (by the time the position starts for early-career researchers).
Key Criteria
- Demonstrated excellence in research and teaching commensurate with the rank applied for (Assistant, Associate or Full Professor).
- Strong record in one or more of: large-scale AI systems and architectures; optimisation/learning theory; quantum information/quantum communication; AI for engineering.
- Demonstrated experience or a strong interest in interdisciplinary international research and partnerships, with emphasis on bridging research between Europe and the US.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to collaborate with industry and academic stakeholders globally.
Additional Information
Salary ranges: Assistant Professor (Grade 8): 49,469 to 60,795 p.a.; Associate Professor (Grade 9): 59,030 to 79,276 p.a. (depending on qualifications and experience).
