About the Role:

Job Summary

The pharmacy technician for ambulatory care works under the direction of an ambulatory care pharmacist and is a compassionate, trustworthy and organized individual who supports NGPG's ambulatory pharmacy program, including successful implementation and management of processing medication prior authorizations, assistance applications, co-pay assistance cards, foundation NGPG clinic administered medications formulary management and other programs. The pharmacy technician will help NGPG patients access their medications and will document patient interactions in the electronic medical record. The pharmacy technician will also support the organization's medication safety initiatives in identifying and reporting medication safety issues and assist in mitigating the likelihood of recurrence. The pharmacy technician will oversee completion of medication recall processes, will collaborate with Providers in medication reconciliation when requested, and provide other services allowable by licensure and law. Under the direction of an ambulatory care pharmacist, the pharmacy technician will function as an extended member of the care management team, and will collaborate with NGPG Providers on services requested.

Minimum Job Qualifications

  • Licensure or other certifications: Georgia Board of pharmacy licensed pharmacy technician. Vocational or technician training or degree with Pharmacy technician certification from an accredited program. CPhT or must obtain within six (6) months of hiring.
  • Educational Requirements: Associates Degree.
  • Minimum Experience: Two (2) years or more experience in pharmacy as technician. Experience with insurance, claim adjudication and claim appeals. Experience with EPIC.

  • Maintains current awareness and understanding of standards, principles, trends, regulations, best practices, and pay for performance measures related to medication management, and patient safety issues.
  • Successfully acts as an ambassador of the pharmacy technician role and scope of practice while upholding the principles and guidelines of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
  • Must demonstrate good time management and customer service skills.
  • Current in knowledge of medical and pharmacologic terminology, Lexi-Comp and Up-to-Date.

Essential Tasks And Responsibilities

  • Understands the medication prior authorization process and successfully manages the process to completion with patients, pharmacies and Providers.
  • Assist patients and Providers with completing medication assistance, co-pay assistance, and foundation program applications. Submits the applications to the necessary programs with timely follow-up including communication of outcomes to patients and Providers.
  • Complete and document medication adherence telephonic outreach.
  • Maintain a professional manner with providing telephonic services with patients. Relay messages in EPIC and/or email for patients to the medical staff or the ambulatory care pharmacist.
  • Complete and document medication reconciliations. Refer to the ambulatory care pharmacist when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with care team to identify support needed to achieve optimal outcomes in performance measures involving, related to, or requiring medication practices.
  • Demonstrate measurable and meaningful impact on individual patient and population outcomes.
  • Conduct comprehensive medication reviews for drug allergies, cost effective drug selection, dose optimization, contraindications, adverse effects, potential drug interactions, therapeutic outcomes and adherence.
  • Serve as a credible, trusted resource for the identification, analysis, and promotion of safe medication practices.
  • Input medication variances and good catches into the RL6 system and notify the ambulatory pharmacist.
  • Notify ambulatory care pharmacist of all serious medication variance in order to prevent patient harm.
  • Complete and document medication prior authorization completions. Communicate the coverage determination to the patient and clinic.
  • Provide education to clinical support staff on how to complete medication prior authorizations.
  • Maintain clinical competencies on medication prior authorizations.
  • Partner with ambulatory pharmacy and supply chain to maintain NGPG's clinic administered medication formulary.
  • Proactively look for cost savings with clinic administered medications.
  • Maintain Vizient rostering for NGPG clinics.
  • Other duties as assigned.
