Job Overview: To undertake the design of Electrical Building Services, from inception to completion, for a wide variety of interesting and prestigious schemes.
Key Responsibilities:
- When required, attend Client/Design Team briefings to establish project criteria.
- Develop system options at design development stages in conjunction with Director/Associate.
- Undertake initial space planning exercise for plant rooms, primary services routes, etc.
- Prepare initial budget costings and monitor design development/cost implications.
- Attend Design Team and Site Meetings as sole representative, if appropriate.
- Undertake surveys of existing installations that establish condition and suitability for re-use.
- Undertake principal design calculations associated with electrical systems (e.g. lighting calculations, cable sizing, distribution board schedules, etc.) using computer software packages.
- Produce Tender quality drawings in accordance with QA Procedures using AutoCAD/Revit.
- Attend site to undertake survey of existing installed services to establish location and content (but not condition or adequacy for re-use) unsupervised.
- Liaise with Statutory Supply Companies to obtain record information and quotations for new supplies.
- Liaise with equipment manufacturers to obtain quotations.
- Select standard terminal devices based upon calculated loads (e.g. switchgear, light fittings).
- Liaise with Contractors to deal with site co-ordination queries.
- Undertake snagging of installed systems with respect to installation quality.
- Manage own time effectively and prioritise, highlighting to Team Leader potential shortfalls in available time so that remedial steps can be taken to achieve Client deadlines.
- Liaise with CAD / Revit resources and Admin team to achieve drawing and document production to meet Client deadlines.
- Demonstrate awareness and understanding of the Practice Quality and Operational Procedures.
Requirements:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field with extensive experience in electrical system design.
- Proven expertise in System on Chip (SoC) architecture, schematic capture, and CAD tools such as AutoCAD or Revit.
- Strong background in root cause analysis, debugging techniques, and troubleshooting complex electrical issues.
- Proficiency with simulation software including MATLAB/Simulink for modeling system behavior.
- Hands-on experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), ARM microcontrollers, firmware development, and signal processing.
- Familiarity with mechanical knowledge related to electrical enclosures, surface mount technology (SMT), soldering techniques, and manufacturing processes.
- Skilled in using CAD software like MicroStation or SolidWorks for detailed mechanical-electrical integration drawings.
- Knowledge of electrical standards related to surface mount technology (SMT), surface-mount devices (SMD), and surface-mount assembly processes.
- Programming skills in C++, Python, Perl or similar languages for firmware development and automation tasks.
- Ability to perform root cause analysis effectively using various diagnostic tools and methodologies.
- Excellent communication skills to document technical details clearly for cross-disciplinary teams.
