A leading UK food manufacturer is seeking a Group Technical Manager to lead technical capability and governance across a five-site manufacturing network. Reporting directly to the Operations Director, this role will play a key part in strengthening technical leadership, developing site teams, and ensuring consistent standards across the business.

This opportunity would suit either an existing senior technical leader or an experienced Site Technical Manager ready to step into their first group-level role. The role can be based at any of the company’s UK manufacturing sites, with occasional travel required between locations.

The Role

As Group Technical Manager, you will provide leadership and direction to Technical Managers and technical teams across five manufacturing sites. Working closely with site leadership teams, your focus will be on building capability, developing people, and ensuring robust technical systems are consistently applied across the group.

You will work alongside a Head of Technical responsible for continuous improvement and customer-facing technical activity, while this role focuses on site technical leadership, team development, and technical governance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and support to Site Technical Managers and their teams across five manufacturing sites
  • Ensure consistent food safety, quality, and technical standards across the group
  • Lead technical capability development, including training, mentoring, and succession planning
  • Support recruitment and development of technical personnel across the network
  • Ensure sites maintain compliance with relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements
  • Work closely with site leadership teams to embed best practice technical systems and governance
  • Collaborate with the wider leadership team, including the Head of Technical responsible for CI and customer engagement
  • Provide technical reporting and strategic insight to the Operations Director

The Candidate

We are looking for a strong technical leader from a dairy manufacturing background who enjoys developing teams and driving high standards across manufacturing operations. This role would suit either someone already operating in a senior technical leadership position or an experienced Technical Manager looking to step into a broader group-level role.

Essential:

  • Strong technical leadership experience within dairy manufacturing
  • Proven experience managing technical teams within a food manufacturing environment
  • Strong knowledge of food safety, quality systems, and regulatory compliance
  • Ability to develop teams, build capability, and drive a strong technical culture
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
