North Northamptonshire Council Adult Social Care is seeking an exceptional Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) to join our dedicated AMHP Service as we continue our transformational journey.

As an AMHP, you will play a vital role in safeguarding the wellbeing of vulnerable adults, working across a rota covering 9:00am – 9:00pm. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced practitioner with strong expertise in Mental Health Act practice, who can work autonomously and confidently within a fast-paced, often high-pressure environment. You will undertake statutory Mental Health Act assessments, working collaboratively with partner agencies while maintaining professional independence and upholding the highest standards of practice.

You will also act as a role model, supporting colleagues and contributing to the development of excellent Adult Social Care practice.

Essential Requirements

Applicants must be one of the following registered professionals:

  • Social Worker
  • Mental Health Nurse
  • Occupational Therapist
  • Psychologist

You must:

  • Be registered with the relevant professional body (e.g. Social Work England, NMC, HCPC)
  • Hold current AMHP approval
  • Provide evidence of post-qualifying experience and ongoing CPD as an AMHP
  • Demonstrate experience of effective multi-agency working (e.g. NHS, Police, Ambulance, care providers, advocacy services)

The North Northamptonshire AMHP Team delivers the statutory requirement for AMHP provision under the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended 2007). You will be part of a 24-hour AMHP Service, based at Haylock House, Kettering, supporting both North and West Northamptonshire local authority areas. This role operates on a rolling rota of day shifts.

Salary & Benefits

  • NNCSC Pay Band 22: £48,226 – £51,356
  • Plus £2,000 Advanced Practitioner Allowance
  • 28 days annual leave per year (pro rata for part time employees), plus bank holidays, increasing to 30 after 2 years’ continuous service and a further three after 5 years’ continuous service.
  • Business Mileage paid at 45p per mile
  • Free DBS check according to job role
