We are looking for a Healthy Schools Advisor to join the Public Health team in North Northamptonshire Council. This role provides a rare opportunity to become part of the highly ambitious Healthy Schools team and help develop a service which aims to:

  • Improve health and wellbeing of whole school communities
  • Empower schools to identify, understand and address health priorities within their setting
  • Promote a holistic approach to health and wellbeing, with a focus on prevention and early intervention
  • Build strong and trusted partnerships with a wide range of organisations
  • Provide the best possible service to our customers.

The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator and team player, with the ability to work collaboratively across a network of educational settings, healthcare providers, local authorities and third sector organisations. They will have a good understanding of health promotion in schools to improve quality, share good practice and deliver an outstanding school health offer that makes a positive difference to children, families and the communities they live in.

As a Healthy Schools Advisor, you’ll work closely with schools and education settings to champion health and wellbeing for children and young people. You’ll recruit and guide schools towards recognised standards, empower staff to deliver high-quality PSHE and wellbeing education, and design innovative training and resources. Your role involves building strong partnerships with educators, parents, and local organisations, sharing best practice and data insights, and supporting schools through assessment frameworks. You’ll lead on action planning, contribute to strategic reporting, and help reduce health inequalities by focusing on priority areas. This is a varied role combining partnership working with proactive, evidence-based solutions that make a real impact on resilience and healthy lifestyles.

About you

Education, Qualifications and Training

  • Essential Criteria
  • A Level or equivalent qualification within Health & Wellbeing, Education or Community Development-related field
  • Desirable Criteria
    • An Education-specific related qualification e.g. PGCE.

    Experience and Knowledge

    • Essential Criteria
    • Professional experience of working within education settings.
    • Sound understanding of children and young people’s health and wellbeing.
    • Knowledge of the principles of project planning and implementation.
    • Involvement in Health & Wellbeing development work.
    • Experience of communicating with a diverse range of stakeholders, including children, parents and community members.
    • Familiarity with data collection and interpreting data analysis.
    • History of delivering online and in-person training and presentations.
    • Knowledge and understanding of key guidance and good practice around health and wellbeing, including PSHE and RSHE.

    Ability and Skills

    • Essential Criteria
    • Fluent in English.
    • Holds a Full UK Driving Licence (unless registered disabled).
    • Takes personal accountability for own development.
    • Evidence of working successfully in partnership across different sectors, building and maintaining good working relationships.
    • Able to produce long term plans with clear outcomes and to monitor and evaluate their effectiveness.
    • Can effectively manage specific areas of a project/event.
    • Capable of working on own initiative and as part of a team.
    • Able to prioritise workload and meet deadlines as required.
    • Demonstrates confidence and ability to put forward innovative ideas for change.
    • Ability to be creative, to be able to identify problems and work to create solutions.
