About the role

Northamptonshire Youth Justice Service (NYJS) has an exciting opportunity for two Youth Justice Team Workers to join our service on a permanent basis, working as part of the North and West teams. There is a full‑time position within the West team based in Northampton and a part‑time 18.5‑hour job share position within the North team based out of Wellingborough. Both will require you to travel effectively across the county. The Youth Justice Service is a statutory partnership dedicated to reducing offending among children and young people, protecting them from harm, repairing existing harm where possible and safeguarding their welfare.

Responsibilities

  • You will motivate children and young people, their parents and carers, and other workers to put your knowledge and experience into positive outcomes.
  • Working in the community you will meet young people in our offices, community venues and their homes.
  • You will also engage with young people in custodial establishments.
  • You will build and sustain professional relationships swiftly to maximise impact.
  • You will offer a range of approaches responsive to the needs of individuals, being persistent and determined to engage and re‑engage those who need you most.
  • You will work in partnership with colleagues inside and outside the YJS, representing our service in court and presenting professionally to magistrates and judges.

Qualifications

  • Experience undertaking complex assessments with children and young people, writing reports and designing/delivering interventions, preferably in a Youth Offending Service.
  • Confidence and credibility as a practitioner, with a passion for children and young people, their parents/carers, victims of crime, professional colleagues and formal settings such as Youth and Crown Courts.
  • A professional qualification or relevant degree such as a nationally recognised qualification as a Youth Worker, Nurse, Probation Officer, Social Worker, Teacher, or equivalent.
  • The role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, requiring an enhanced DBS certificate and a Barred List check.
