The Milk&You Project seeks to provide emotional, physical, educational and instrumental assistance to support the Mums within our communities to ensure all Mothers and babies are never left feeling isolated. Our MUMS Support Volunteers give emotional and practical help to parents experiencing difficulties with feeding their baby as well as supporting parents with home life challenges, low confidence and mums who are experiencing stress.

This is a wonderful opportunity to volunteer in your local community to support Mothers, using your skills and experience and knowledge from the training we provide, to ensure that Mums are never left feeling isolated. It is very rewarding to be able to help others who may be struggling, by giving some of your time to support them.

As a Mums Support Volunteer you will:

  • Offer a listening ear
  • Use your mothering skills
  • Lend a helping hand

You may be visiting families in their homes and will offer support in various ways depending on the mothers' needs. You may also be asked to attend support groups and co-facilitate with our NHS trained peer supporters, help run buggy walks and events. You may also wish to support mums on the phone or online.

Opportunities exist to work with families across Northamptonshire. An enhanced Disclosure and Barring (DBS) check will be required for this volunteer role.

Skills: We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers with the following skills, knowledge and experience to join our team of volunteers:

  • Parenting experience
  • To have breastfed/provided breastmilk to their baby and have a passion to support other mothers with breastfeeding.
  • A good listener
  • To respect confidentiality

We would like you to be able to offer up to 3 hours a week to support within groups, in family homes, on our buggy walks, picnics or other events, and be willing to complete a 6 week training course. An enhanced DBS (disclosure and barring service) check is required for this role, which is done through us.
