Summary of the Post:
This post is to support our large and specialist paediatric unit based at Northampton General Hospital. The successful candidate would be expected to provide a comprehensive Ophthalmic service at Northampton General Hospital and support the provision of an effective county-wide service, both at Northampton and Daventry. The post holder will also help lead and develop this service as well as being an active member of the wider Ophthalmology team.
The post will ideally suit a forward-thinking individual with the desire to further their career in ophthalmology. A desire to participate in research and clinical audit is essential.
Minimum Requirements:
- It is essential that the post-holder should hold the FRCOphth or an equivalent qualification.
- Provide a comprehensive Ophthalmic service at NGH and support the provision of an effective county-wide service, both at Northampton and Daventry.
- Access to a serviceable vehicle and a valid driving licence is required.
- Provide a paediatric service within Ophthalmology; the appointee must also be a capable general ophthalmologist able to undertake a general service provision.
- Proficiency in cataract surgery and a commitment to training is essential.
- On-call for Paeds is 24/7, with current requirements being contact via phone/text/email, usually only within office hours.
- Responsibility for the patients in his/her care and for the proper functioning of the department.
- Carry out teaching duties as required and take an active part in the Postgraduate Medical Education programme and in the teaching of Ophthalmic Trainees within the department.
- Contribute to the teaching and training of nursing staff and other healthcare professionals within the department and elsewhere within the Trust as appropriate.
- Regularly attend and participate in departmental educational meetings.
- Active role in the robust clinical audit programme in operation within the department and to take part in regional and national audits as required.
- Report all critical incidents and attend and support departmental audit and clinical governance meetings.
- Proven commitment to service development.
- Generate revenue for the Trust and department through innovative working practice.
