Role: External Works Operative (Fencing)

Location: West Bridge Depot, Northampton.

Hours of work: 37 hours per week

Contract Type: Permanent

Salary: £25,625 per year

It\’s an exciting time to join Northamptonshire Partnership Homes (NPH) as we expand and grow our business, whilst developing and improving existing services for our residents. A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join NPH as an External Works Operative (Fencing).

The Role

  • Working as part of a small team, to undertake the renewal and repair of fences and gates at and around our housing stock.
  • To cut back trees and vegetation as required.
  • To assist the paving team as required

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that Safe Working Practices are adhered to, in accordance with Health and Safety Legislation and Northampton partnership Homes Health and Safety Policy.
  • Duties will include the need to work clean and tidy, ensuring correct fencing and gates are put up straight and level, to a high standard and the areas left tidy and safe.
  • All associated works to be carried out to complete the job such as relaying of paving, patching footpaths, joining to existing fence lines, shed etc and landscape gardening on affected area.
  • Carry out inspections to fenced areas, to agree works, that meet both health and safety requirements and adhere to Northampton Partnership Homes\’ policy.
  • Safe use of various tools including, chainsaws, dump trucks, nail guns, power saws.
  • To assist the paving team as required helping to meet team goals.
  • Driving a company vehicle whilst at work and ensuring the safe use of the vehicle while on the road and parked. Carrying out daily maintenance checks on the vehicle ensuring that tyre pressures and fluid levels are maintained.
  • Work effectively as a team to ensure that all work is completed in an efficient manner with the most economic and effective use of time, materials and skills ensuring work schedules are followed and deadlines met.
  • Erect and remove safety barriers, pedestrian barriers and signs and cones to ensure site safety is adhered to.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in a secure, safe and clean condition.
  • Participate in meetings and training as required.
  • Maintain all necessary records and administrative procedures required by NPH, utilising technology provided in accordance with instructions.
  • To carry out any other duties which fall within the broad spirit, scope, levels and purpose of this job description.

What skills are we looking for?

  • ·Fencing / carpentry qualification or time served
  • A good level of fitness, Capable of regular heavy lifting, carrying, stooping and able to work outside in all weathers
  • Experience in working in a construction environment
  • The ability to follow written and spoken instructions
  • Work within a small team, but able to work on own initiative with minimal supervision
  • A willingness to work flexibly when required
  • Knowledge of construction related Health and Safety Issues
  • Knowledge of safe digging practices in relation to underground services
  • Experience of working with customers, with an understanding of what customer excellence looks like when providing external works.
