Are you an experienced Exercise/ Therapy Instructor looking for a new challenge or wishing to further develop your skills and knowledge? Do you have a keen interest in the assessment and progression of respiratory patients? An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit an enthusiastic and highly motivated part‑time Band 4 Exercise/ Therapy Instructor to join the Restart Team at Northampton General Hospital, part of the University Hospitals of Northamptonshire group.
Main duties of the job
You will be part of the Restart team of clinical specialist nurses, Physiotherapists and Support staff, and you will be supported by the qualified staff in the role and encouraged to develop your knowledge and skills. Ideally you will already have qualifications in exercise rehabilitation/ exercise referral and be working towards the Wright Foundation Level 4 Pulmonary Rehabilitation certificate, but we will support this process. You will need to achieve these qualifications within 18 months of starting the post. You will need to hold a current UK driving licence and be able to travel between the venues we deliver rehabilitation. This is an established role which has the aim of delivering Pulmonary Rehabilitation across the West Northamptonshire area. The post involves working alongside qualified staff to manage a waiting list; conduct telephone and face‑to‑face assessments for Pulmonary rehabilitation; deliver Pulmonary Rehabilitation exercise and education courses in local community centres; deliver Pulmonary Rehabilitation using remote tools; maintain paperwork and audit data.

Educations, Training and Qualifications
- Educated to GCSE Grade C or equivalent level of education, training or experience
- NVQ or Certificate in Healthcare or equivalent level of education, training or experience
- Holds or working towards Exercise Instructor qualification – (e.g. City & Guilds level 3) with core competencies completed
- Has or can work towards Wright Foundation Level 4 Pulmonary Rehabilitation Course
- Holder of a full UK driving licence
Knowledge and Experience
- Experience at delivering exercise therapy / rehabilitation
- Previous work supervising exercise programmes
- Ability to assess a patient within a framework
- Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
- Experience in the ordering, maintaining and stocktaking of equipment
- Experience in continuing and progressing interventions and treatment programmes following assessment by a Qualified Health Professional / self
- Knowledge of recent NHS issues especially in relation to Pulmonary Rehabilitation
- Physiological knowledge of Respiratory conditions and their effect on an individual's physical capabilities
Skills
- Able to undertake manual and therapeutic handling
- Good IT skills – working knowledge of Microsoft packages and NHS referral systems
- Database skills / Auditing of a service and collecting data
- Good communication skills, written and verbal
