This role is one of two new posts, increasing the consultant body to eight, supporting a modern hybrid vascular service providing both elective and emergency care. This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic and well established team delivering high‐quality open and endovascular surgery for a population of 800,000. The post includes participation in a 1:6 on‐call rota (moving to 1:7 and eventually 1:8). Both posts are for an initial 12‐month period.

Main duties of the job

The initial job plan comprises a total of 10 PAs per week (8.5 DCC PAs, including on call, and 1.5 SPA) and is subject to annual review with the Clinical Director. The service operates a 6‐week rolling timetable. Elective activities include regular all‐day theatre vascular list, half‐day vascular CEPOD list and outpatient clinics in the county. You are required to attend the Vascular MDT, weekly planning and M&M meetings on Fridays and a regular vascular consultant meeting. Not currently included are additional operating theatre sessions in the day surgical unit for vascular access & venous surgery. There is capacity for endovascular sessions within the 6‐week cycle in the IR suite for appointees with endovascular competence, with potential for future expansion to day‐case angiography lists at KGH. This job will ideally suit a modern hybrid vascular surgeon with endovascular skills. A representative initial job plan for this role is shown on the JD. Clinics are held in NGH, outreach clinics in KGH, Corby & Nene Park. The detailed job plan will be subject to agreement with the service lead and the Trust. The job plan shown in the JD is provisional, modelled on the current plan being worked by the locum consultants (subject to change). Agreed job plans will include travel and patient admin time. All vascular consultants are currently allocated 1PA for patient admin and 1.5 PA for basic SPA.
