We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Locum Consultant Neurologist to join our well‑established and supportive NHS neurology service.

This is an exciting opportunity to deliver high‑quality neurological care within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, while contributing to education, service development, and innovation.

The role involves a balanced programme of outpatient neurology clinics, inpatient ward referrals, multidisciplinary team (MDT) work, and supporting professional activities (SPA).

It includes active participation in multidisciplinary and radiology meetings to support safe, effective, and patient‑centred care.

The post holder will also contribute to the supervision, teaching, and development of trainees and junior medical staff, and engage in audit, governance, and administrative activities that underpin high‑quality clinical practice.

Dedicated SPA time is included, with opportunities to engage in research, quality improvement, and service development in collaboration with the Trust's Research and Development team.

Main duties of the job

  • Conduct urgent and routine neurology clinics and ward referrals.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, trainee supervision, and teaching.
  • Undertake administrative duties to support clinical practice.
  • Engage in academic, study, and supporting professional activities (SPA), with opportunities for research and service development.
  • Participate in educational supervision, appraisal, management, and leadership roles where appropriate.

Person Specification

  • Experience of Audit and Quality Improvement
  • Experience of Teaching Junior Staff
  • Experience in Curriculum development and delivery
  • High level Organisational Skills
  • Publications in recognised Medicine / Medical Education Journals or Presentations
  • Full GMC Registration
  • MD, Ph D or other higher degree
  • Education / Medical Education Qualification (preferably at Masters level)
  • Completion of Specialty Training (CST or equivalent) or within 6 months of achieving it in relevant specialty
