To ensure guidelines are developed, implemented and monitored to reflect evidence based and best practice. To work alongside the Maternity Services Audit Lead to develop and implement Directorate wide audit processes that will effectively monitor clinical practice to ensure continuous improvement, compliance and effectiveness.
To provide and lead specialist midwifery practice in the development and co-ordination of guideline and clinical pathway development to support safe, effective high-quality maternity care. To facilitate the implementation of the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE), external publications and external assessments programmes this will include the associated audit programmes.
To develop and implement processes to effectively monitor clinical practice via care pathways, ensuring continuous improvement, compliance and effectiveness. To facilitate, support and coordinate a rolling programme of clinical audit projects, evidence-based practice and audit based on maternity priorities and specialty specific requirements.
Use national benchmarking data ie CMACE, RCOG, NICE to ensure that policies and guidelines are reviewed and updated to reflect best practice. Utilise information from incidents, complaints and claims to ensure procedural documents are reviewed and updated as appropriate.
Main duties of the job
- Promote collaborative working partnerships and effective communication between all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
- Ensure professional and clinical standards are maintained and developed in response to new evidence.
- Act as a supportive professional role model for midwifery, providing midwifery care in accordance with the NMC Code.
- To communicate and liaise with staff groups at all levels on all aspects of the audit cycle, ensuring that all necessary information is correctly gathered and presented in a comprehensible and timely manner.
- To liaise with all staff groups to ensure clinical audit evidence requirements for CQC and external assessments are provided in a timely manner.
- To provide advice and guidance to staff on general clinical audit queries and also ad hoc clinical audit training when required.
