To collect and record data abstracted from the Endoscopy database to compile monthly reports. To provide assistance to clinicians in the development and maintenance of national and local clinical audit activities related to Endoscopy services. To provide administrative support to Endoscopy services, by the preparation of data reports, arranging of Endoscopy Users Meetings, and minute taking. To ensure that data is collected accurately supervising and advising nursing and medical staff in data collection. Checking and validating the quality of data collected. To communicate and receive complex accurate clinical data both internally and externally to outside bodies. To work closely with the Joint Advisory Group (JAG) GI Endoscopy helping to implement audit systems. To work closely with the Waiting List team and Unit manager to provide Capacity and Demand data, trajectory data and waiting list data.
Main duties of the job:

Job responsibilities:
- Service development and implementation
- Follows and implements Trust and Departmental policies in own role e.g. data protection, health and safety.
- Works closely with the Unit Manager and Waiting list team to provide all relevant data in line with the patient access policy.
- Responsible for the collection of data and the production of reports that directly impacts on the income of the Trust including the identification of specific steps in the care pathway to achieve best practice tariff.
- Observes personal duty of care when using equipment e.g. computer and general office equipment.
- Demonstrates duties and provides advice and help in own work area to new and less experienced staff.
- Acts as a mentor for less experienced staff and trains nurses new to the Endoscopy Care environments.
- Responsible for data entry utilising paper and computerised systems on a daily basis.
- Frequent requirement to interrogate databases, extract and analyse data.
- Occasional requirement to create or format spreadsheets using computerised systems.
- Responsible for the operation and development Endoscopy Services audit information systems.
- Undertakes surveys/audits for own work e.g. data validation.
- Regularly undertakes complex and continuous audits using research methodologies.
- Assists medical and nursing staff to undertake research projects.
- Assists patients/clients/relatives during incidental contacts e.g. directing patients/clients/relatives to Wards/Departments/Clinics.
1. To collect and validate data from case notes and Endoscopy records and the completion of forms. In particular for the Endoscopy Reporting Tool, and to circulate appropriately to meet pre-determined timescales for reporting.
2. To abstract patient data from the Endoscopy Reporting tool, Bluespier and Medway to populate excel spreadsheets for monthly reporting.
3. Translate data into JAG reporting templates for monthly submission.
4. Compile and turn data into a readable meaningful format, i.e. PowerPoint Presentations for inclusion at quarterly reporting / audit meetings.
5. The production of monthly reports against a set of key performance indicators for the Trust Board, the Division of Emergency Care and Medicine and the Finance Department for the purposes of performance monitoring, planning and commissioning, and collection of best practice tariffs.
6. Liaison with the Clinical Head of Service for Gastroenterology / Endoscopy and the Division of Emergency Care and Medicine to provide information to inform financial budgets, business plans and quality improvement.
7. To use a variety of software applications such as Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Bluespier, Medway, and the Endoscopy reporting tool etc. to produce information in the form of slides, charts and reports and to assist staff in the above as required.
8. To be aware of the need for and maintain confidentiality both with the written and spoken word.
9. To work independently to design, develop, implement and redesign data collection forms to match the data collection requirements of the Unit and external requirements.
10. To assist the Clinical Lead of Service for Gastroenterology / Endoscopy services and senior nursing staff Endoscopy to raise the profile of data collection and audit in the services to support continuous quality improvement.
11. Providing information to the Clinical Lead of Service for Gastroenterology / Endoscopy services, nursing and senior staff, to support decision making by generating ad-hoc reports.
12. Bringing to the attention of nurses any uncompleted data and undertaking comprehensive searching for missing data, and to train nursing and medical staff how to collect accurate data and its relevance to the Trust.
13. To provide support, teaching and updates on Endoscopy Audit to all staff to facilitate involvement and data quality.
14. To undertake specific audit projects using research methodologies as defined by the Clinical Head of Service for Gastroenterology / Endoscopy services across the Services.
15. To work closely with IT services internally and externally to design and update databases, including participation in relevant user groups.
16. To produce reports and data for Endoscopy Data Sets.

- Qualifications & Further Training: GCSE qualifications in English and Maths or equivalent, Knowledge of various hospital computer systems EG Careflow, Medi-logik, Evidence of study beyond GCSE level or equivalent, Data Analyst / Statistic education / learning.
- Experience: Previous experience within a clinical environment, Data Entry Experience, Ability to present data verbally and in written format.
