Automation Sales Engineer – South of England - Automation Products & Solutions


£55,000 - £65,000 Neg DOE Plus OTE, Car or Allowance, Private Medical & Dental, Life Assurance, Pension, 25 days Holiday. Field Based.


On behalf of our client, we are pleased to offer this role. It is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Regional Sales Engineer, Area Sales Manager, or Business Development Manager with at least 5 years of experience in industrial automation, including edge solutions and a broad knowledge of PLC/HMI/SCADA, programming languages (IEC, Codesys desirable), industrial Ethernet, web technologies, and IoT. The successful candidate will work independently in the field, identifying and developing opportunities both directly and through distribution partners, while supporting team members with expertise.


This role requires a strong team mentality, collaborating with sales team members, product specialists, and international colleagues to promote a wide range of products and solutions. It is a key driver of new business, working alongside experts to deliver tailored system solutions to high-value clients. You will have the freedom to engage clients face-to-face, supported by a knowledgeable technical team, delivering value into key industrial markets.


We seek outstanding candidates with proven sales ability and performance in the industrial control & automation market. Candidates should be educated to HNC/HND or Degree level in a relevant subject, highly technically and commercially competent, with excellent communication skills and the ability to influence decision-makers. Knowledge of the market, customer types, and demonstrated experience are essential. The role involves meeting sales targets within a defined territory. It is home-based but requires good access to major roads for travel. This is a senior-level position.

  • At least 5 years of industry experience in industrial automation and edge solution sales.
  • Degree/HNC/HND or equivalent technical qualification.
  • Understanding of automation architectures, including PLC programming languages (IEC, Codesys desirable).
  • Knowledge of visualization software tools, including thin client deployment and SCADA.
  • Understanding of Industrial Ethernet in control networks, including security routers, switches, and remote access solutions.
  • Awareness of open platform protocols and use cases such as Web technologies, OPC UA, Docker, Node Red, MQTT.
  • Organized with a professional sales approach.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Self-motivated and disciplined.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
