Position Summary
TÜV SÜD is seeking a recognisedNuclear Materials Specialistwho shares our values to join our successful Nuclear Technologies business as a Principal Consultant. This senior role carries responsibility for technical delivery, project management, and leadership of technical work. While line management opportunities may be available for the right candidate, they are not a prerequisite for the role.
The successful candidate will provide high-quality consultancy support to TÜV SÜD Nuclear Technologies clients while also contributing to the development and mentoring of junior team members. You will have a proven track record of successful project delivery and technical leadership
As an experienced Technical Lead, you will bring expertise in plutonium and special nuclear materials. Your broad nuclear industry experience will enable you to support a variety of topics, including fuel management, waste management, and decommissioning.
Joining a dedicated team of specialists, you will provide expert advice to clients on a range of current and future nuclear materials management challenges. A key aspect of this role is mentoring and developing less experienced colleagues through effective guidance and project leadership. You will play a crucial role in shaping and executing a strategy to enhance TÜV SÜD’s capabilities in this field, ensuring our team remains at the forefront of nuclear materials management.
Responsibilities and Authority:
- Mentorship & Development: Support the growth of less experienced colleagues through mentoring and effective project management.
- Technical & Strategic Leadership: Lead the delivery of technical projects and contribute to the strategic development of TÜV SÜD’s capabilities in nuclear materials.
- Commercial and Business Development: Proactively engage in commercial and business activities, including:
- Participating in marketing and business development efforts (e.g., attending supplier events, contributing to marketing materials).
- Delivering presentations to clients and representing TÜV SÜD at industry conferences.
- Assisting the Commercial Team with expressions of interest, pre-qualifications, tenders, and proposals.
- Ensuring project management and assurance align with TÜV SÜD policies and procedures.
Specific Education, Skills and Knowledge – Essential:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant science or engineering field.
- Expertise knowledge and experience of plutonium and nuclear materials with a strong technical background in their management, safety, and security.
- Extensive nuclear industry experience, enabling support across a range of special nuclear materials-related topics.
- Good awareness of new build landscape.
- Proven ability to lead technical projects and provide high-quality consultancy.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance.
- High standard of technical report writing and verbal communication.
- Ability to mentor and develop junior colleagues.
Specific Education, Skills and Knowledge – Desirable:
- Qualification to Masters or PhD.
- Knowledge and experience in fuel management and related nuclear materials issues.
- Experience in broader nuclear materials consultancy, including waste management and decommissioning.
- Membership, or working towards membership, of a relevant professional body.
