About the Role

We are currently recruiting on behalf of our client for a Waste Porter to join their Waste & Recycling team. This is an important frontline role supporting the safe, efficient movement and disposal of waste across a busy hospital environment. You will be responsible for delivering a high-quality service to wards and departments, ensuring all waste streams are handled safely, compliantly, and in line with environmental legislation.

  • Collect, transport, and dispose of clinical, hazardous, and general waste, as well as laundry, across the site
  • Ensure correct segregation, handling, and storage of all waste types
  • Exchange sharps containers and manage confidential and condemned waste
  • Operate equipment such as electric tugs, compactors, and balers (full training provided)
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of waste storage areas and external zones
  • Complete all required documentation in line with legal and organisational requirements
  • Report faults, hazards, or maintenance issues promptly
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, supervisors, and external contractors
  • Support continuous improvement within the waste and recycling service

About You

  • The ideal candidate will be reliable, hardworking, and able to work effectively in a physically demanding role within a fast‑paced environment.
  • The ability to carry out manual handling tasks (lifting, pushing, pulling)
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
  • A proactive approach with the ability to follow instructions and work independently
  • Strong awareness of health and safety practices
  • The ability to prioritise tasks and remain calm under pressure

  • Full training will be provided
  • Flexibility to work across different areas as required
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of hygiene and professionalism
  • Willingness to complete mandatory training and complete all vetting checks

  • This role is subject to a DBS check and sufficient compliance documentation being completed.
  • Candidates must be able to provide references to cover previous work history
  • Candidates must adhere to strict confidentiality and data protection standards
