Effective August 17, 2026, the Speech and Language Pathologist will provide speech and language assessments and therapy to students with various disabling conditions including developmental, neurological, orthopedic, and behavioral dysfunction/disorders. Responsibilities include determining eligibility for services and therapy, providing therapy in receptive and expressive language, articulation, stuttering, and voice, and supporting the transition of students through the education system.

Qualifications:

  • Possesses a Bachelor's degree; Master's degree with a certificate of clinical competence required.
  • Possesses a valid Pennsylvania certificate and valid speech license.
  • Assures compliance with Employment Eligibility, Criminal History Record, Pre-Employment Drug Testing, and Physical Examination/TB Test Standard.
  • Possesses proficiency in the English language, with strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with school personnel and the public.
  • Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment as assigned.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Possesses a valid driver's license if position requires travel around the district.

Knowledge of:

  • Remediation strategies and behaviour management techniques.
  • Instructional terminology, program philosophies, concepts, materials, methods, and procedures.
  • Proper administration, evaluation, and interpretation of diagnostic tests and measurements.
  • Techniques and methods of speech and language assessment, diagnosis, evaluation, and planning.
  • Record keeping and report writing techniques.
  • Applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Primary Job Functions:

  • Accepts and processes referrals; administers and interprets diagnostic tests to identify the language, speech, and hearing needs of referred students; evaluates results and determines primary disabling condition; communicates related information to the individualized education program (IEP) team.
  • Consults with parents, teachers, and administrators regarding the language, speech, and hearing needs of students; serves as a member of the IEP team and other special groups as appropriate.
  • Prepares diagnostic reports; facilitates referrals to other agencies, clinics, or resources when necessary.
  • Collaborates and prepares modifications and recommendations for students who have not qualified for service; monitors, facilitates, and re-evaluates student progress.
  • Implements effective remediation strategies and behavioural management techniques to individuals enrolled in therapy; collaborates with regular and special education teachers, and instructional assistants to provide classroom intervention.
  • Designs augmentative communication systems (BoardMaker) and trains students, staff, and parents in related systems, or makes appropriate referral to outside agency or local IU; designs speech and language home programs and trains parents in their use.
  • Organizes and maintains records as required by law and district policy.
  • Provides planned learning experiences to motivate pupils and best utilise the available time for instruction; identifies and adjusts instructional objectives in terms of student need using grade level standards and assessments.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials to provide individualised and small group, as well as whole group, instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
  • Creates lesson plans that comply with PA Core Standards and/or PA Academic Standards.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behaviour needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom; supports and assists in maintaining district discipline policy and the site discipline plan; develops self-discipline responsibility and leadership skills in the students.
  • Evaluates pupils' academic and social growth, maintains appropriate records, and prepares progress reports; communicates with parents on the individual pupils' progress.
  • Creates a therapy environment conducive to learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centres, which includes models of high standards and expectations for student work.
  • Promotes School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS).
  • Maintains professional competence through staff development activities and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Administers multiple-measure assessment tests in accordance with the testing program and IEP goals.

Secondary Job Functions:

  • Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned workday.
  • Administers the health needs of students, as needed.
  • Participates in meetings, conferences, and in-services as assigned.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

  • Possesses ability to access, input, and generate output of data from a computer.
  • Possesses ability to understand directions and instructions to perform duties.
  • Possesses ability to effectively communicate to exchange information.

Term of Employment: Contracted days, compensation, and benefits per the PSEA-NEA Agreement.
