Crossing Guard positions are available for the Northampton Borough.
Monday through Friday – approximately 6:45 AM to 9:00 AM AND approximately 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
TITLE: Crossing Guard
REPORTS TO: Chief of Police
JOB SUMMARY: Works with the Chief of Police to ensure school safety requirements are met for children crossing the street.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent, required
- Assures compliance with Employment Eligibility, Background Checks, Pre-Employment Drug Testing, and Physical Examination/TB Test
- Possesses ability to maintain high level of confidentiality
- Possesses ability to deal courteously and tactfully with students, staff, and the public
- Must live within thirty (30) minutes of post
- KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Applicable traffic laws, school district regulations, policies and procedures
- Must have the ability to handle situations that may occur with children at the crossing area(s)
- Must have the ability to deal with dissatisfied individuals
Primary Job Functions
The position holder must be able to perform the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. It is the responsibility of the employee to inform the District of any and all reasonable accommodations that will be required.
- Controls vehicular traffic as necessary consistent with the safety of all concerned to assure safe crossing for children
- Directs school children to cross the street at the designated areas
- Controls traffic with the assistance of a hand-held stop sign and/or traffic signal light
- Wears safety vest while directing traffic and/or crossing children
- Instructs all school children to walk at the crossing point
- Must be dependable and punctual
- Must have good attendance
