The salary is dependent on current qualifications and experience.

We are seeking a highly organised, personable and flexible individual to join our busy school office team. This is a varied role combining front-of-house reception duties and administrative support. The postholder will be responsible for:

  • Answering telephone calls
  • Handling visitor enquiries
  • Dealing with post
  • Escorting students around the school site
  • Liaising with parents and students as required

The postholder will also be required to carry out administrative tasks as directed by the Senior Administrator, such as:

  • Sending communications to parents by post, email and text message
  • Producing letters and other documents
  • Data input
  • Reprographics as necessary

In the first instance, the majority of the role will involve working on reception as the first point of contact for visitors, students and parents. Over time, there may be an increasing emphasis on administrative duties, supporting the wider functions of the school office. As such, it is essential that the successful candidate is both confident in a reception role and willing to develop and take on a full range of administrative responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the first point of contact, managing telephone calls and face-to-face enquiries
  • Provide a welcoming and professional reception service to visitors, staff, students and families
  • Undertake a range of administrative and clerical duties to support the school
  • Maintain student records (electronic and paper) and ensure accurate data entry and information management
  • Assist staff with administrative queries and provide general office support
  • Support administrative processes linked to safeguarding and wider school operations
  • Communicate effectively with staff, students, parents and external stakeholders

This post will suit someone who is/has:

  • Professional and well organised
  • Friendly and resilient
  • An excellent telephone manner
  • Competent using a range of computer programmes (experience of using Bromcom and/or ClassCharts would be helpful although not essential as training will be provided)
  • The ability to work on their own initiative and as part of a team, recognising when to seek support and advice
  • Able to deliver first aid (statutory first aid at work training can be provided)
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Able to deal with matters sensitively and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information

Key Requirements

  • Literacy and numeracy qualification (Level 2 or equivalent)
  • Enhanced DBS clearance
  • A commitment to the ethos and values of the school
  • A willingness to undertake training and professional development

Important Information

Please note that this role is not solely a receptionist post. While the role will initially focus heavily on reception duties, it will develop into a broader administrative position. Applicants must therefore be willing and able to undertake both aspects of the role.

Previous Experience

Previous experience of working in a school is an advantage although not essential. If you think you have the skills to offer, we would love to hear from you.
