North Yorkshire Police (NYP) and North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (NYFRS) deliver vital, high‐impact services to communities across the region. Working closely with the Policing, Fire and Crime Function of the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority, both organisations are investing in modern, collaborative and digitally‐enabled ways of working.

To support this ambition, they are seeking an innovative Director of ICT to lead the strategic transformation and delivery of Information, Communications & Technology (ICT) across both services.

As the Director of ICT, you'll be at the heart of strategic decision‐making, working closely with senior leaders and stakeholders to deliver modern, resilient and cutting‐edge technology solutions. Your leadership will enable agile, innovative and responsive policing and fire services, ensuring the ICT function remains one step ahead of operational need. This is a highly influential role where your leadership will directly support frontline capability and long‐term organisational resilience.

What you'll do:

  • Lead, motivate and develop the ICT function, embedding a customer‐focused, service‐driven culture centred on accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Design and deliver ICT strategies aligned to organisational priorities and the Police & Fire Plans.
  • Build strong partnerships with internal teams, senior leaders, partner agencies and suppliers to maximise collaboration, efficiency and innovation.
  • Oversee the development, implementation and continuous improvement of ICT policies, standards and operating procedures, ensuring compliance with national, statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide expert advice to the Chief Officer teams of both NYP and NYFRS, as well as the Deputy Mayor and other key stakeholders.
  • Manage budgets and resources, ensuring the responsible use of public money and identifying opportunities for innovation, cost savings and income generation.
  • Champion change and lead digital transformation programmes across both organisations.

What we're looking for:

  • Extensive senior leadership experience within ICT in a large, complex and dynamic organisation.
  • A proven track record in service development, performance improvement and cost reduction.
  • Deep understanding of ICT‐enabled business transformation in a fast‐moving operational environment.
  • A broad technical understanding and an interest in new and innovative technology.
  • Strong political, social and organisational awareness.
  • Excellent communication, relationship‐building and strategic thinking skills.
  • An emotionally intelligent and inspiring leader who will make a positive contribution as part of the broader leadership teams of both police and fire.
  • Ability to go through security vetting and medical clearance.
