Contract: Fixed Term 2 year contract (potential to become a permanent post subject to approval)

Hours: Full Time 37 hours per week

Salary: £30,333 - £35,772 – (Scale 5-6)

North Yorkshire Police would like to invite applications for our Intelligence Researcher within our Economic Crime Unit, this is an important Police Staff role within a specialist department. As Intelligence Researcher you will receive and assess financial intelligence from banks, building societies and other parts of the regulated financial sector where there are suspicions of fraud, money laundering or a risk of significant harm to vulnerable persons. You will be required to record and sanitise this intelligence in accordance with the National Intelligence Model and the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996 to support the investigation of financial and other crime.

The role will require the collection, collation and assessment of the information received and require you to make judgements on whether further investigation or intervention is required. You will work with not just Specialist Fraud Investigators and Financial Investigators within the Economic Crime Unit but also other intelligence functions and detectives from our Organised Crime Unit as much of your work will be in line with the team and organisations objectives to tackle the highest harm offenders involved in Serious and Organised Crime (SOC). The research you complete will assist in the progression of cases and the intelligence product you produce will be considered for investigation or disruption opportunities considering both criminal and civil options. There may be a requirement to support major crime investigation and enquiries to assist in locating wanted offenders and threat to life situations. Ultimately your work will help to remove the proceeds of crime from organised criminal networks, will assist in preventing harm coming to vulnerable people and will ensure that crime doesn’t make the criminals better off.

Essential Requirements:

  • Excellent research skills
  • Be National Crime Agency Financial Intelligence Officer (FIO) accredited and/or be Intelligence Professional Programme accredited or be willing to attain these accreditations. Training will be provided if you do not hold these accreditations to ensure you can effectively carry out the role. You will need to maintain this through Continuous Professional Development.
  • Be able to conduct enquiries, working methodically, organising your workload and meeting strict statutory time limits with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to obtain, collate and present material from Intelligence enquiries, including recording and retaining material.
  • Able to use databases, you’ll be fully IT-literate.
  • Demonstrate by example the ability to work with a team, as well as individually.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly and succinctly, both verbally and in writing and meet the needs of the audience.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience of dealing with money laundering and financial and fraud investigations
  • To have knowledge of the National Intelligence Model
  • To have knowledge of the Management of Police Information and disclosure management
  • To have a knowledge of Police and Criminal Evidence Act and Proceeds of Crime Act
  • Previous experience of using the i2 analytical software

Shift Pattern/Travel:

Monday – Friday Standard office hours 08.30am-17:00pm with one hour lunch break. NYP can be flexible with working hours. Occasional requirement to work at different locations. To attend external meeting/conferences/workshops as required.
