Location: Fulford Road, York (Once competent in the role, occasional hybrid working may be available)

Contract: Permanent | Part time

Hours: 25 hours per week - Monday 9am – 4pm, remaining hours/days to be agreed

Salary: Full‑time equivalent: £24,747 – £29,859 (Scale 2–4) Actual salary (25 hours): £16,720 – £20,175 pro rata

The Opportunity

We are looking for an Alcohol Licensing Administration Officer to join our small, specialist team within the Alcohol Licensing Department. Working alongside Police Officers and Staff, you will play an important role in supporting the delivery of alcohol licensing across North Yorkshire. This is a busy and varied administrative role where you will manage a high‑volume inbox, triage enquiries, and act as the first point of contact for external partners including local authorities, responsible authorities, businesses, and other stakeholders. You will be responsible for processing alcohol licensing, gambling and scrap metal applications, carrying out background checks, maintaining accurate licensing records, and supporting Licensing Officers by ensuring they have the information they need to make informed decisions within statutory timescales.

This role would suit someone with strong administrative experience, excellent attention to detail, and the confidence to work independently and use their own initiative. Knowledge of the Licensing Act, Gambling Act and Scrap Metal Act would be advantageous, but full training will be provided.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy when handling data and documentation
  • Customer‑focused, professional attitude when dealing with enquiries
  • (Desirable) Awareness or working knowledge of the Licensing Act 2003, Gambling Act 2005 and or Scrap Metal Act 2013
