The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Planning and Resource Management Officer to join North Yorkshire Police’s Force Control Room (FCR), where effective planning plays a critical role in supporting frontline policing. This campaign is being run to support both current and future opportunities, and as part of this process we are looking to establish a holding list of suitable candidates. This means that if vacancies arise, successful applicants may be offered a position without the need to re‑apply.
The Force Control Room is the first point of contact for over 1,000 emergency and non‑emergency calls every day, and ensuring the right resources are in place is essential to delivering an effective service. In this role, you will provide a high‑quality resource management service by managing and preparing advanced duties, ensuring we have the right people, in the right place, at the right time. Your work will directly support operational policing and help us deliver an excellent level of service to the public of North Yorkshire and the City of York.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Prepare advanced duties for FCR staff for a 12‑month period, in line with Police Regulations, the Working Time Directive (WTD), and relevant legislation
- Use workforce optimisation and bespoke IT systems to produce detailed operational schedules covering daily, weekly, monthly, and annual activity
- Work closely with the Customer Contact Management and Operations Planning teams to ensure appropriate operational cover
- Forecast demand and staffing requirements to meet Service Level Agreements for 999 and 101 calls, including predicted service levels and call abandonment rates
- Carry out scenario planning to assess the impact of operational change and elevate findings to senior managers
- Monitor annual leave, TOIL, sickness, and other abstractions to maintain effective resourcing while balancing staff wellbeing
- Conduct reconciliation activities to ensure data accuracy across multiple systems
- Provide regular updates and insights to supervision and senior leadership teams
