The Opportunity
We are looking for a talented Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Engineer to join the Applications Development team in ICT. You will be part of a team who contribute to the design, development and implementation of GIS Applications for North Yorkshire Police (NYP), North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (NYFRS) and Office for Policing, Fire, Crime and Commissioning (OPFCC).
Main Responsibilities
- The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance of the information held within the gazetteer and mapping systems as well as ensuring GIS Platforms critical to public safety have access to up-to-date mapping and addressing information.
- Investigating and resolving problems arising with Gazetteer and Mapping data
- Providing GIS application support to users
- Define and develop GIS data and systems
- Act as a primary contact with Ordnance Survey (at senior grade)
- Provide geospatial advice to Business users to increase its use and effectiveness
- Technical maintenance of GIS Software Platforms (installation, configuration, fault resolution)
What We’re Looking For
You will have the ability to work on multiple tasks at any one time while maintaining high quality standards. You will be a good communicator and be able to work on your own initiative as well as being able to provide clear and accurate advice to staff at all levels. Experience in a Cartographic, GIS environment and knowledge of NEC Universe/Cadcorp or other major GIS Systems (QGIS/Esri) is desirable, but not essential. A degree in GIS or Geography or related experience would also be advantageous with an interest in developing IT skills.
