The Opportunity
Our Support Service functions work in collaboration across North Yorkshire Police and North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service, providing vital shared expertise to deliver efficient and effective service to our communities. We’re looking for a proactive Estates Support Technician (Caretaker) to help maintain the safety, functionality, and appearance of our joint Police and Fire estate. You’ll carry out minor repairs, planned maintenance, and routine safety checks across buildings and grounds. You’ll also support the Estates team with record keeping, data management, and reporting, while ensuring critical safety systems are tested and operational. This varied role includes transporting evidence, maintaining grounds, assisting with estates queries, and supporting equipment used in evidence gathering.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out minor repairs and planned preventative maintenance
- Conduct routine safety inspections and hazard identification
- Test fire alarms, emergency lighting, and safety systems
- Maintain accurate records and assist with reporting
- Transport evidence and materials safely across the county
- Perform basic grounds and vehicle maintenance
- Support contractors and respond to estates-related queries
- Test and calibrate equipment used for evidence gathering
- Ensure availability of digital interview recording devices
- Promote health, safety, and compliance across the estate
What We’re Looking For
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Knowledge of health & safety and COSHH procedures
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Competent in Microsoft Office and IT systems
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable but training will be given:
- Qualified Fire Marshal and Emergency Lighting Testing certification
- COSHH Risk Assessment qualification
