Our Future Finance Leaders Programme is an exciting time to join the Finance team as we begin life as a new unitary local authority in North Yorkshire - combining all of the services currently provided by the county, district and borough councils. Working in a modern, flexible and agile way, you will be an ambassador for customer self-help, as you help budget managers to monitor and manage their own budgets. Supporting them through the establishment of the new council whilst influencing and challenging as appropriate.

In addition, you will have chance to support our commercial agenda, including a number of Council owned companies, and work with our partners such as the North York Moors National Park. All in all, it provides an opportunity to work across many fields of professional accountancy with a variety which would be difficult to find elsewhere.

As well as financial management roles you will also have exposure to a range of technical disciplines within the team, including: statutory accounts production, financial systems, audit, treasury management, VAT and taxation. Together, this wide-ranging experience will give you the grounding you'll need for senior management within the sector.

What we can offer you... Whilst being supported to study for your professional qualification, we will work with you to ensure you have a personal development plan to enhance your workplace skills. As part of our training programme, we also offer you:

  • Full funding and support towards achievement of the CIPFA professional qualification;
  • A generous study package to complete your studies, in addition to revision modules to support your learning;
  • Structured support from qualified accountants who have completed the programme;
  • Leadership and management training;
  • Fulfilling career prospects with range and diversity;
  • A range of technologies to support modern ways of working;
  • A comprehensive benefits package.

As a trainee within the Finance team, you will also develop your managerial skills, through the Aspiring Managers and Leadership Programme and will report to a Head of Finance who will provide you with support. We will also ensure you are supported through your studies by a colleague who has personal experience of gaining the qualification themselves with the Council.

You must have two Level 3 qualifications Grade A to C (e.g. A Level or equivalent) in addition to five Level 2 qualifications Grade A to C (e.g. GCSE or equivalent), including numeracy and literacy. You may be a graduate, a school leaver or AAT qualified - provided that you meet the above requirements your application will be considered.
