The Personalised Learning College (PLC) is seeking an exceptional Wellbeing and Personal Development Lead to provide strategic and operational leadership for learner wellbeing, personal development and safeguarding-aligned curriculum delivery across our specialist post-16 provision. This is a unique opportunity to shape inclusive, trauma-informed practice and ensure young people develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to lead safe, healthy and independent adult lives.
About the Personalised Learning College
The Personalised Learning College provides specialist education and support for learners with high levels of need, the majority of whom have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). Our learners may experience complex learning, communication, emotional and social needs and benefit from highly personalised approaches to education, wellbeing and preparation for adulthood. We are committed to ensuring every learner has the opportunity to thrive, develop independence and achieve positive outcomes through inclusive, person-centred support.
About the Role
As Wellbeing and Personal Development Lead, you will provide both strategic direction and hands-on leadership for wellbeing, personal development and learner voice across the Personalised Learning College. You will lead the development of high-quality, inclusive wellbeing programmes and oversee PSHE and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) provision, ensuring delivery is responsive to individual learner needs and aligned to EHCP outcomes. Working closely with senior leaders, SEND professionals, safeguarding teams, teaching staff and external partners, you will play a key role in supporting learner engagement, attendance, behaviour, resilience and preparation for adulthood while contributing to the service's quality improvement and inspection readiness.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead the delivery and continuous improvement of wellbeing and personal development activity across PLC.
- Oversee high-quality PSHE and RSE provision that is appropriate, inclusive and responsive to learner needs.
- Support staff to confidently address wellbeing, personal development and sensitive learner issues.
- Monitor learner wellbeing, behaviour, attendance and engagement, taking action to address emerging risks and concerns.
- Deliver targeted interventions and support for individual learners and small groups.
- Develop strong partnerships with health professionals, social care teams, specialist services and community organisations.
- Lead the development of PLC's wellbeing and personal development framework in line with SEND legislation, Ofsted expectations and council priorities.
- Contribute to quality improvement, self-assessment and inspection readiness activities.
- Promote learner voice, independence, confidence and preparation for adulthood across all areas of provision.
About You
We are looking for an experienced and inspiring professional who is committed to improving outcomes for young people with SEND. You will have:
- Significant knowledge and understanding of the challenges facing young people with Social Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH).
- Significant experience working within education, SEND, youth work or adult learning settings supporting learners with complex needs.
- Experience of leading or coordinating wellbeing, personal development, PSHE or RSE provision.
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation and working with vulnerable learners.
- Experience of quality improvement, self-assessment or inspection readiness activity.
- Experience of working collaboratively with health, social care and multi-agency partners.
- The ability to provide strategic and operational leadership across a complex service.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with learners, families and professionals.
- The ability to analyse information, identify trends and use evidence to inform improvement.
- A commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.
