About the service

Here at North Yorkshire Council, we are extremely proud of our Children’s Services, rated Outstanding across all areas by Ofsted. Our team works with children and young people who are cared for by the Local Authority, working closely with families, using an established Practice Model to create plans to achieve the best possible outcomes for children and young people. This includes working with children in the care of their parents or members of their network, in Local Authority foster care or sometimes residential care and children and families going through care proceedings. This means we cover all aspects of the court process; a good understanding of this or a willingness to learn is vital.

About the Role

As a Team Manager, you will lead and manage Social Workers with the support of Practice Supervisors to ensure the delivery of an effective social work service to children and their families in accordance with the relevant policies and procedures. You will:

  • Provide clear leadership and drive the Strength in Relationship Practice Model, which places effective relationships at the heart of our work.
  • Oversee timely assessments, safeguarding decisions, and care planning to achieve positive outcomes for children and young people.
  • Manage team performance, budgets, and resources to meet service priorities and Ofsted standards.
  • Champion multi‑agency collaboration with partners such as Health, Education, and Police.

What We’re Looking For

  • Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration.
  • Extensive experience in child protection, complex case management, and leadership within social care.
  • Strong people management skills and the ability to lead through change and innovation.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and partnership working skills.
  • A good understanding of the challenges that children and families face.
  • A drive to make a positive change, promoting the development of the Strength in Relationship Practice model.

It is an exciting time in Children and Young Peoples Services in North Yorkshire as we plan our approach in respect of the Families First Partnership Programme and how we will be responding to the social care reforms. Work is underway to plan our approach and implementations for 2027. As a result of this, some realignment may happen with job roles in the future; we want to be transparent about this in respect of this role.
